Tokenized Gold Is Flowing Into DeFi — Tether Gold Crosses $100M

Tether Gold (XAUT) has reached a new milestone in decentralized finance.

According to Token Terminal data, deposits of the tokenized gold product into DeFi protocols recently surpassed $100 million, climbing to $102.9 million across 10 venues.

At the same time, XAUT itself is trading at $4,363.79, up 8.6% over the past 30 days as of September 2, 2026 (13:00 UTC).

Aave Dominates the Flows

The concentration of deposits is striking. Aave accounts for 74.2% of total XAUT deposits when combining its V3 and V4 markets.

Within that, Aave V3 alone holds 66.4% of the overall share, followed by smaller allocations to Uniswap V4, Aave V4, Morpho Blue, and other platforms.

The data shows that when tokenized gold moves on-chain for productive use, it is overwhelmingly flowing into established lending markets rather than being scattered across the ecosystem.

This preference for Aave highlights the protocol’s deep liquidity and institutional-grade infrastructure, making it the preferred venue for larger, more conservative capital seeking yield on gold-backed assets.

Price Action Supports the Narrative

The 30-day chart for Tether Gold shows a constructive uptrend. After starting the period near $4,000, XAUT climbed steadily, peaked above $4,600, and has since consolidated near the current $4,360 level.

The 8.6% monthly gain reflects broader strength in gold prices while the token continues to attract on-chain interest.

Why This Matters

Tokenized gold has long been viewed as a bridge between traditional safe-haven assets and crypto-native markets.

Crossing $100 million in DeFi deposits signals that holders are no longer treating XAUT solely as a passive store of value.

Instead, a growing portion is being put to work in lending markets, generating yield while retaining gold exposure.

The development also underscores a broader trend: real-world assets are increasingly finding utility inside DeFi rather than remaining idle in wallets.

As more tokenized commodities and traditional assets come on-chain, the ability to deploy them productively becomes a key differentiator.

Looking Ahead

Tether Gold’s move past $100 million in DeFi deposits marks a meaningful step for tokenized commodities.

With Aave capturing the majority of flows and the token itself showing solid monthly performance, the combination of traditional asset exposure and on-chain yield is gaining traction.

Whether this momentum continues will depend on sustained gold market strength and the ongoing willingness of holders to deploy XAUT into DeFi protocols. For now, the data shows clear progress in bringing tokenized gold into active use.
