Strategy’s Bitcoin bet just picked up a much thinner risk profile. The company confirmed on August 27, 2026 that its USD assets now almost entirely offset its debt, cutting net leverage to roughly 0.1%, according to Strategy’s announcement . The gap between the two figures has narrowed to just $60 million.

The Numbers Behind the Announcement
Strategy’s chart shows $6.69 billion in dollar assets against $6.75 billion in debt. The centerpiece is a $5.10 billion reserve earmarked for dividend and interest payments.
It was up from $4.0 billion at the start of August, funded by $3.28 billion raised this month. A separate $1.59 billion cash pool sits alongside it for more flexible use.
Net leverage itself is calculated by subtracting dollar assets from debt, then dividing that figure by the value of Strategy’s Bitcoin reserve. With the dollar gap shrinking to almost nothing, that ratio now sits close to zero.
A Notable Trade-Off
Strategy bought no Bitcoin at all during the stretch this reserve was building. The company currently holds 840,447 BTC.
Techgaged previously reported the firm’s average purchase price sat near $75,862 across an earlier tranche of its stack, meaning the treasury’s overall cost basis still runs close to current market prices.
That leaves the position only modestly in profit rather than deeply cushioned, even after this de-risking move.
Bitcoin’s Backdrop This Week
Bitcoin traded at $79,842.40 on August 28, 2026 (7:00 UTC), up 5.6% over the past seven days. The rally wasn’t a straight line.
Price dipped toward $76,000 on August 24, spiked above $81,000 the following day, then spent the rest of the week grinding between $79,000 and $80,000 before settling near $79.84K.

That volatility is the same backdrop against which Strategy’s leverage reduction is being read by the market.
Reading the Skeptics’ Response
Not everyone treats this as a clean win. Techgaged flagged similar concerns earlier this year when critic Peter Schiff argued that Strategy’s shift toward funding obligations with debt rather than buying Bitcoin signaled strain rather than strength.
The company’s role in the market has also grown more singular.
Techgaged analysed data earlier in 2026 showing Strategy driving nearly all corporate Bitcoin treasury demand, a concentration that makes its balance sheet moves more consequential for the wider market than they’d otherwise be.
Whether this near-zero leverage reading marks a genuine turning point in strategy or a defensive pause before the next buying cycle may depend on how Bitcoin trades over the next few weeks.
