Sui just quietly added one of its most significant product launches of the year. Aftermath Perpetuals V2 went live on mainnet this week, bringing 15 markets into one fully onchain environment. SUI followed with a 16.1% weekly gain.
What Went Live And Why It’s Different
Aftermath Perpetuals V2 launched on Sui mainnet on August 20, 2026, as confirmed by Sui’s official account.
Day one includes 15 markets: crypto assets like BTC, ETH, and SUI alongside equities including NVDA, TSLA, and GOOGL, plus gold, silver, WTI crude oil, and the S&P 500.
Every position settles entirely onchain. No off-chain matching engine. No intermediary.
That’s the distinction that separates this from most derivatives platforms in crypto today.
Institutional Infrastructure Has Been Arriving In Parallel
This launch didn’t happen in isolation. Sui’s institutional layer has been building steadily since April, when Techgaged reported that CME Group announced Sui futures ahead of a formal institutional push.
That kind of regulated derivative product typically precedes broader institutional participation.
On the same day V2 launched, Securitize and Neuberger Berman separately deployed a tokenized income fund on Sui. These aren’t unrelated events.
They reflect the same infrastructure buildout, now reaching a public-facing milestone.
Sui’s DeFi Growth
Sui’s DeFi layer has been expanding in specific ways this year. Techgaged reported in February that Sui’s DeepBook margin trading launch marked the next phase of its DeFi development,
This adds capital-efficient leverage tools to the network’s existing liquidity infrastructure.
Aftermath V2 builds directly on that foundation, adding cross-asset perpetuals to a DeFi stack that already handles spot, margin, and lending.
The Price Moved, But One Number Will Confirm It
SUI trades at $0.785190 as of the latest CoinGecko reading on August 21, 2026 (11:00 UTC), up 16.1% over the past seven days.

Price held flat near $0.65 to $0.69 through most of mid-August before breaking sharply higher on August 19 and extending gains through August 21.
Watch Aftermath V2’s daily open interest over the next two weeks. If it crosses $50 million and holds, that would confirm the platform is attracting genuine trading demand rather than just launch-day curiosity.
