Meta is bringing Instagram Reels into homes with availability on TV sets. The company has revealed plans to make Reels available on TVs at home and not just mobile phones or personal computers, making it easier for more people to watch together.
In an announcement on December 16th, Meta said it is starting to test Instagram for TV. A specialized app that will allow users to watch Instagram Reels from their favorite creators directly on their TVs at home.
According to the company, the vision is based on popular demand from Instagram users who say watching reels together is better. The pilot will enable them to determine the features that make the experience work best for TVs.
Meta Expands Instagram Reels Availability
Instagram Reels have been a major component of the Instagram experience since its introduction, and Meta is giving them more attention recently. Just last month, the feature got an upgrade that enabled it to record longer videos and an overall improvement in how it works. Users applauded this improvement saying it gives them a better experience.
The latest upgrade on the platform happened this week. When Meta announced that it is making it possible for Meta Glasses users to access Reels right on their frames. This is another update that users have shown much excitement about. With the potential to improve both Meta Glasses use and Instagram Reels engagement.
With the expansion to home TVs, Meta is using innovation to further widen coverage for Instagram Reels, but it doesn’t stop there. The company plans to introduce new features to the app, like using smartphones as remotes to browse, different ways to channel surf, shared feeds with friends, and making it easier to keep up with favorite creators, all in one place.
Instagram for TV Available in the U.S.
The pilot is rolling out on Amazon Fire TV devices only in the U.S. initially. With plans for expansion to other countries and devices in the future. To access it, users must install the Instagram app on their Amazon Fire TV and sign in to their account, or set up through the Settings and activity menu in the mobile app.
With the ability to add up to five accounts, everyone in the home can enjoy a personalized way to watch reels. Reels is restricting content access to PG-13 videos for the tests as the app is designed for shared viewing.
