Bitcoin Vs Silver: 1979 Boom And Bust Repeated?
In Brief
- • Bitcoin–silver behavior is echoing a historic boom-bust setup.
- • Volatility metrics signal a rare market inflection point.
- • The shift raises caution heading into 2026.
Bitcoin (BTC) and silver are beginning to move in ways that echo one of the most famous commodity episodes in modern financial history, according to Bloomberg Intelligence strategist Mike McGlone.
Specifically, McGlone compared today’s cryptocurrency market conditions with the 1979 silver squeeze led by the Hunt brothers, a period marked by explosive price action, extreme volatility, and a sharp shift in sentiment once momentum faded.
While Bitcoin and silver are very different assets, McGlone argues their current positioning shows striking structural similarities, according to the analysis he shared in an X post on December 30.
