Troll Sparks Fear in XRP Community with Fake Dump Memo
In Brief
- • A troll account caused panic in the XRP community with false claims that Ripple sold XRP.
- • The claims were tied to routine escrow movements, which historically sparked concern.
- • Although the message was admitted to be satire, it raises questions about Ripple’s XRP sales.
The XRP community is known for its unwavering support for the token against all odds, but even the community can be shaken by news of huge dumps. Recently, a troll account has shared messages implying that Ripple sold massive amounts of XRP in 2025 and intends to do more in 2026.
The troll shared a message in response to Whale Alert’s X post about 500 million XRP being moved by Ripple. On the screenshot he shared purportedly from Ripple, he added a memo that Ripple sold $8 billion worth of XRP in 2025 to buy shares from other companies, clearly in a bid to spite XRP holders.
Ripple’s Escrow Management and Price
Ripple is the largest holder of XRP, and the decision the company makes about the sale of the token can affect the price greatly. Over the years, Ripple has become known for moving huge amounts of XRP in and out of the escrow, which creates panic many times because of the amount of the token moved.
The troll capitalized on the latest 500 million XRP moved to the escrow account to create tension among XRP holders who have been optimistic that the price of the token will go up eventually. He implied that Ripple was dumping XRP, which means a price collapse is inevitable.
The message on the screenshot reads:
“2026 will have even more XRP selling to expand Ripple’s core business, by purchasing profitable companies and focusing on RLUSD. This is all possible because of you, long-term XRP holders. Ripple shareholders thank you for your service. And remember – know what you hold!!!”
XRP holders who have tenaciously held onto their bags in anticipation of better days are more determined than most crypto holders. Popularly known as the XRP Army, they hold the token, believing that it will reach a price of $589 some day when an analyst has dismissed a $100 forecast as unrealistic. In practice, they remain at the mercy of Ripple which holds the bulk of the supply and can dump it at any time if it wanted to.
Troll Has Some Truth in his message
While the depressing message from the troll was clearly satire and he has admitted it, the message seems to have some truth based on recent happenings in Ripple. For example, Ripple did buy lots of companies as part of its recent expansion strategy.
This means the troll could be trying to send a message to XRP holders about their long-term holding when Ripple itself is selling to buy other companies.
