Porsche car battery layout
German automaker Porsche has turned to the use of AI for data analysis to make high-voltage car batteries.
In a press release on 5 June, the auto giant said using machine learning and AI for data analysis is helpful for understanding huge amounts of information.
Using AI to build batteries
Car batteries are a complex system that is exposed to a wide range of external and internal influences, and Porsche uses AI to gain insight into how the influences affect the battery systems.
That way, the company builds systems that are always better to serve Porsche customers the best way they can by improving performance.
For electric vehicles, the most important of these systems is the battery, and the engineers utilize the insights to build strong, high-voltage batteries.
Algorithms analyze the balancing behaviour of individual cells and the entire battery at the development stage to ensure that there are no issues later.
Key factors considered in developing the batteries from the analysis include range, charging time, system performance, weight, durability and consumption to ensure the battery serves customers for as long as possible.
A new data analysis method
Porsche is also introducing a new method of data analysis for the first time in its battery production. Known as preventive anomaly detection, the method is being applied to the Porsche Macan battery.
If any anomalies are detected in the data, this method helps to assess the technical cause and relevance of such anomalies to ensure the long-term performance of the high-voltage system.
Porsche has employed the use of technology in several of its operations lately, so it’s logical that AI will find a place.
Earlier this year, it began using driving simulators to pre-validate the development of vehicles. This way, any faults in design can be detected early before the vehicles are finally built physically.
