U.S. to deploy detection tech as mysterious drones spark fears in New Jersey
The U.S. government has resolved to deploy high-tech detection technology as weeks of unidentified drones over New Jersey causes panic.
According to reports, the federal government reached the decision to deploy the detection tech after lawmakers demanded investigation into the drones.
One of the lawmakers, New York Sen. Chuck Schumer called on the Department of Homeland Security to send in a 360-degree radar known as the Robin to quickly identify the drones and determine their sources.
No threat
As the tension around New Jersey where the drones have been flying heightens with experts saying drones may be from enemy nations, authorities have stated that there’s no known threat coming from the flying objects.
Some experts have also said the flying objects may be manned vehicles rather than just drones, probably because of their large sizes.
Meanwhile, the Governor of New York Kathy Hochul is calling for calm, which residents are not happy about.
Shumer has emphasized that the pressing need is to find out who owns the drones so that discussions can begin with the company. He stated in a comment on Sunday that:
“There are hundreds of companies all over the globe that make drones. We don’t know which ones these are. This radar will help us find out which they are, and then we can go talk to the company,”
According to the lawmaker, one thing is clear — the drones don’t belong to the U.S. military, because they would have informed residents about it.
while the drones are spread across the East Coast, reports say there have been at least 3,000 sightings of the mysterious objects mainly focusing on New Jersey.
As part of strategies to prevent future uncertainties and panic in the country, Hochul is asking that legislation be passed to force companies with such drones to register.
