WhatsApp to end support for these iOS smartphones in May 2025
Instant messaging platform WhatsApp is set to end support for some older iOS versions and iPhone models by May 2025.
According to information shared on 2 December, iOS versions older than iOS 15.1 are affected, which means iPhone users with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus will not be able to access the messenger app after the scheduled date.
What to do
WhatsApp is a messenger app with close to 3 billion active monthly users. With the announcement that users of older iOS versions and iPhones will be cut off, millions of users may be affected, especially in the third world where they can hardly afford the latest iPhones.
If you’re one of those affected however, all hope is not lost. You can maintain your access to WhatsApp after May 2025 by simply updating your iOS software to the latest version which WhatsApp supports.
This can be done by simply going to your Settings, then General. Tap on Software Update to get the latest iOS version installed on your iPhone and you’re good to go.
The only problem is that installing a more recent version of iOS on an older iPhone may cause the phone to not function optimally. This is however the only way to maintain access to WhatsApp after the May deadline.
Latest Whatsapp upgrades
WhatsApp has been upgrading its platform recently, with many rapid changes being implemented. There have been several beta updates for both Android and iOS users as well as for desktop devices.
Early last month, the platform rolled out status update reminders for iOS devices. This is a feature that sends occasional reminders to users about status updates they might be interested in but have missed for one reason or the other.
