TikTok app enables movie ticketing with new integration

TikTok is enabling movie ticketing through its mobile app, thanks to a new integration with ticketing platform Fandango.

In a press release on 4 September, the platform said the ticketing feature will start by enabling buying of tickets for Disney’s highly anticipated TRON: Ares, debuting in theaters on October 10.

First of its kind 

TikTok has a long history of supporting entertainment. With its “filmTok” hashtag, the short video social platform has gathered thousands of users to celebrate cinema. However, the ability to buy tickets for movies is a whole new support for movies. 

The partnership with Fandango is the first of its kind according to TikTok, giving fans the ability to go from movie discovery to ticket purchase directly within the TikTok app.

It’s also the first-ever movie ticketing integration powered by TikTok Spotlight, with Fandango as the sole launch partner.

Isaac Bess, Global Head of Distribution Partnerships at TikTok said:

“This Fandango integration seamlessly connects the magic of discovery on TikTok with real-world moviegoing, offering our passionate FilmTok community an effortless way to turn inspiration into immediate action. We are thrilled to collaborate with Fandango on our first movie ticketing integration powered by TikTok Spotlight, enhancing fan engagement and giving audiences a seamless path from discovery to the big screen.”

With the new integration, TikTok users who are movie fans can see a “Get Tickets” button on movie-related in-app hubs which will seamlessly connect them to Fandango’s ticketing platform. 

They can then easily select seats and purchase tickets for their favorite movies.

Long history of support for entertainment

Before now, TikTok has taken major steps towards supporting entertainment. Earlier this year, the platform launched a specialized global platform for artistes.

The platform enables artistes to build their career and fanbase on TikTok. With insightful data, artistes can better connect with the global TikTok community, promote their music, and drive success both on and off the platform.
