Snap’s new spectacles launch in 6 European countries
Multimedia instant messaging services company, Snap has launched its Spectacles in six European countries, including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain.
The company announced the expansion on 29 October, stating that developers in these countries can now apply to join the Spectacles Developer Program.
These are the first countries where the Spectacles are now available outside of the U.S.
Growing interest in Spectacles
Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, introduced the fifth generation of Spectacles at the annual Snap Partner Summit in September this year.
Since then, the company says developers have been building great lenses and a growing interest from the global AR developer community.
With the expansion to Europe, more developers can now apply to build and share Lenses for Spectacles by subscribing and making a required 12-month commitment.
Developers who subscribe will have access to Spectacles and the Spectacles team, helping them bring their projects to life.
According to the announcement, Spectacles will begin shipping to developers in select countries in the coming weeks, with additional markets to launch in 2025.
Commenting on the Spectacles, CEO and Co-Founder of Atomic Digital Design, Antoine Vu said:
“Spectacles are a real playground for our team! Creating live, immersive experiences hands-free is a game-changer for an agency like ours, letting us add a touch of magic to everyday interactions and explore new dimensions of AR storytelling.”
About Spectacles
Spectacles are Snap’s new see-through, standalone AR glasses that enable users to use Lenses and experience the world together with friends in a new way.
They are powered by Snap OS, the new operating system designed to enhance how people naturally interact with the world.
They also work with mobile phones through the new app. With the app, users can launch Spectator Mode so friends without Spectacles can participate by sharing screens.
