Samsung TV meltdown: Streaming apps suddenly unusable
With the growing popularity of streaming apps, many users found themselves high and dry without their favorite content, as Samsung TV is facing a widespread issue in which apps don’t load properly for users around the world.
Indeed, Samsung TV owners have been unable to use any apps on their TVs, according to a Reddit thread with nearly 800 comments and another one that counts over 2,700, as well as Downdetector outage data and on social media, like by X user Vikes Fan 47 on August 1.
Specifically, user u/HatlessDuck reported the bug in the first Reddit thread, stating their Samsung TV wouldn’t let them open the YouTube app due to a network error, but also said the app worked fine on their tablet. Soon, other users joined in, arguing they had problems as well, although for some of them, it has resolved.
In the other Reddit thread, user u/DavidofSasun reported a problem with YouTube but not with other apps, pointing out that it has never happened to them before and mentioning the data from Downdetector as well. Later, the user updated the post to add that Max and Hulu weren’t loading either.
New Samsung TV is not the solution
Interestingly, the outage even led Vikes Fan 47 to buy a whole new Samsung TV, figuring the problem could be in their five-year-old television set before realizing that the problem was with the Samsung server, not the device itself. But at least they now have a brand new 2025 Samsung TV.
As of the time of writing, problems still persist for some users, although others have reported the continuation of the service, albeit they had to tinker a bit with their devices to resume operation. The cause for the disruption remains unclear, although one Redditor reported getting a response from Samsung support in which they said the company was “aware of a potential disruption of service on your Samsung TV.”
