OpenAI’s new browser won’t replace Chrome after all, here’s why
OpenAI recently launched an AI browser known as ChatGPT Atlas, creating panic that it could replace Google’s Chrome but the reality seems different.
Redditors who have used the browser expressed their views on 23 October, many of which were dissatisfied with the performance.
Falling short of expectations
Google has been in a fierce competition with OpenAI ever since ChatGPT introduced the Search feature that allows users to search the net.
As a matter of fact, several internet users at one point preferred ChatGPT for searching the web over Google.
This realization probably inspired OpenAI to create a standalone AI browser to completely take out Chrome, but the browser has failed woefully.
From the comments, users expected the browser to be faster and automated, but it hasn’t met any of these expectations.
The browser is also expected to help users carry out tasks like searching for products to help with shopping, but users clearly don’t trust it enough to allow such.
One of the Redditors commented:
“I’ve seen an embarrassing number of people in this sub acting like this browser is the future they’ve been waiting for their whole lives. “Wow! I can’t believe this browser is so much faster than the Chrome installation that I’ve installed dozens of extensions on and have never cleared the cache on!””
Just another product
As several people have tested ChatGPT Atlas and are not sure of what it has to offer that is better than Chrome, some of them have concluded that it is just another product launch.
Companies like OpenAI have been accused of trying to maximize profit and please shareholders rather than focus on user experience.
Apple also faces such criticism with the decision to introduce ads in its Maps app. Some iPhone users say they will stop using Apple products if the company goes through with the decision.
