Kids Choose Real Books Over AI Stories, CZ’s Academy Finds

In Brief

  • • Data from CZ’s Giggle Academy suggests children favor human-written stories over AI-generated content.
  • • The finding contrasts with adults’ growing reliance on AI tools for all kinds of tasks.
  • • While AI is increasingly entering education, experts note it must be applied thoughtfully

AI is becoming increasingly popular for learning but kids may be thinking otherwise about them when it comes to stories. According to data from an academy owned by Binance’s co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ), kids prefer story books written by humans over AI-generated ones.

CZ shared on X that data from Giggle Academy – a free learning platform he founded for kids – also reveals that kids prefer simple pictures over glossy ones among other interesting discoveries. The  academy with 90,000 students currently has just launched a new app with new capabilities.

Kids Choose Humans Over AI

The age of AI is here, and many adults now choose technology over humans for work and other aspects of living. Elon Musk recently predicted that robots will replace human jobs by 2045. At a time like this, it is interesting to find that kids prefer human written content over AI-generated ones, something that some of CZ’s followers find commendable.

Based on a cursory survey, story books are a significant aspect of training on the Giggle Academy platform, with picture illustrations that combine human and AI-generated content. Although he did not cite any source for the study revealing the information, CZ says kids in the academy prefer human written stories as well as pictures.

Adults on the other hand have shown much affinity towards AI technology and what it has to offer. Many of them rely so heavily on the technology for everyday things like sourcing information and even writing speeches. British Members of Parliament were recently caught using AI to write their speeches, which attracted backlash.

Despite such backlashes, there are probably more incidences of government officials using AI chatbots for their jobs than is noticed or reported, which raises questions on whether such a trend will be slowing down any time soon.

Bringing AI Into Education

While kids in Giggle Academy prefer human content over AI, it does not mean that AI is all bad and should be eliminated in learning all together. Towson University in Maryland introduced the technology in its curriculum early this year, but the institution also admitted that such introduction must be in relevant fields and not all.

With kids already choosing human content, some people have expressed hope that the future generation will be able to make the right decisions about applying the use of AI in the future.
