Gemini Can Now Detect AI-Generated Files

In Brief

  • • Google’s Gemini now includes a feature that can detect AI-generated videos and images.
  • • The system relies on the SynthID watermark and works only with Google AI-generated content.
  • • Gemini’s expanding capabilities are being integrated into many products due to its usefulness.

The sophistication of AI has made it difficult to distinguish between AI-generated content and the real ones, but that is about to change. Google has rolled out a new Gemini feature that helps users verify if videos are genuine or not.

Google announced the new feature in a blog on December 18th. Stating that going forward, Gemini will be able to tell if a video was edited or created using Google AI. The catch is that this only works with videos generated using Google AI and not any other AI platform, making it less helpful than if it covered all platforms.

Google Gemini Can Now Flag AI-Generated Files

Google Ensuring Content Transparency

Artificial intelligence has evolved so quickly in making videos and images that it has become increasingly difficult to tell original images and videos from those generated using AI. This has led to a lot of deception about the sources of these media files which sometimes look too real to be suspected.

To ensure content transparency, Google has rolled out this feature in Gemini that enables anyone to verify if an image or a video was created or even edited using Google AI. Users only have to upload the image or video and ask Gemini if the file is from Google AI. Gemini will then scan the file and notify the user if it detects the SynthID watermark.

The SynthID is a tool embedded into every file generated or edited using google AI. Though hard to identify by ordinary means, SynthID technology like the new Gemini feature can easily detect it on AI-generated content. Users can upload files up to 100 MB in size and 90 seconds in length. Moreover, the feature is available in all languages and countries supported by the Gemini app.

With such a feature now added to Gemini, the era of using files generated by Google AI under false pretence are over. Hopefully, the company will eventually include content generated using other AI platforms like Grok, ChatGPT and others.

Google’s Gemini Making a Difference

Gemini was initially created with limited abilities just like every other product. However, it has evolved to be useful in so many ways that Google is using it for many of its products. The company has introduced it in Android Auto, allowing owners to have real-time conversations with their cars.

Other platforms such as Opera browser are also adopting Gemini to improve user experience and offer more to customers. With the versatility, the AI is likely to become a top choice for AI fans around the world.
