A man using Google Maps on a phone
A Google Maps user has reported incidents of fake locations on the app, referring to them as scams or a spam problem.
In a tweet on December 4, the user tagged Google Maps official handle and drew their attention to the concern. In response, the team requested more information to help them look into the issue.
Google Maps errors
From the report filed on X, Google Maps had erroneously named three different locations with a single name, which means they are probably nonexistent.
Although completely unrelated, the navigation app has made other errors recently which are more deadly. The app has risked one user’s life several times as it led him off the road to unplowed roads and other dangerous places.
Recent reports also say that the app has led to the death of three friends in India after leading them off an uncompleted bride.
Some people have alleged that Google may have resorted to the use of AI to provide navigation guidance, which has led to the many errors. Even worse is the fact that the company doesn’t make it easy to report issues.
With the issues raised so far however, many Google Maps users may reconsider their use of the app if the company doesn’t review and address the concerns promptly.
Google’s other improvements
Google Maps has not been in its best state, probably because Google is experimenting with new upgrades. The company recently updated that new features were included that could help users plan their evenings and find their favorite places with ease.
There have also been upgrades in Google’s other products and services. The major ones are the introduction of Google Vids for creating video content, image creation in Google Doc using Gemini, and addition of AI features to improve Google Shopping.
