Google Maps helps police trace body of woman who went missing for two years
Google Maps has helped a man locate the body of his 83-year old wife who went missing for over two years.
The story was told by a YouTube podcaster Mr. Ballen in his 28 December 2024 episode where he described the situation of the woman, Paulette Landrieux.
Paulette who needed help remembering everything had oftentimes wandered off but was found until this day when she left and never came back.
How Google Maps found her
In the two years that Paullette was missing, nobody including Marcel had a clue which way she went or what could have happened to her. Mr. Ballen explained that:
“Over the next few days and weeks Paulette didn’t turn up. Nobody had any idea where she was, and weeks turned into months and then months turned into two full years that nobody had seen Paulette.By that point Marcel had basically resigned himself to the fact that he very likely would die without ever figuring out what happened to his wife.”
Thankfully, a Google Street View camera in the area had taken snapshots of her crossing the road. A neighbour in the Belgium town looked at the photos on the camera and found pictures of Paullette crossing the street.
With the help of the pictures, the police traced her path and found her body down the side of a steep hill.
Mr Ballen concluded that she must have been trapped down the hill and didn’t know what to do until she died.
Google Maps does well
This report is the first good news on Google Maps in a long time, as many users have recently reported being misled by the app, putting their lives at risk.
One of such users reported that the app had led him off the road into thick snow in the middle of nowhere with no means of reporting the incident because the app was also malfunctioning.
