GM Integrates Apple Music for In-Car Audio Streaming
In Brief
- • GM has begun rolling out native Apple Music integration to select 2025 models.
- • The service is built directly into the vehicles’ infotainment systems and offered through OnStar Basics.
- • The move expands in-car entertainment options amid GM’s shift away from third-party platforms.
General Motors (GM) has always been known for its powerful in-car entertainment, but that is about to get even better. The company is bringing Apple Music to some of its latest car models, opening the door to several possibilities.
Starting today, the company is rolling out the feature to select 2025 and newer Cadillac and Chevrolet models, giving drivers direct access to millions of songs, curated playlists, exclusive content, live global radio, and personalized recommendations.
Apple Music will be fully integrated into the infotainment system of the selected vehicles, while availability across additional GM brands is expected in the near future. Cadillac customers will also have access to Apple Music’s leading library of Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, giving it a huge sound upgrade.

Bringing Audio Streaming to GM
Audio Streaming is a rare feature when it comes to automobiles, but GM’s integration of Apple Music makes that available with ease. The company is making this feature standard through OnStar Basics for all 2025 and newer vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.
This gives customers free access to their favorite music, audiobook, podcast, and news apps, including Apple Music for eight years after their first purchase of the vehicle. Commenting on the new feature, Tim Twerdahl, GM’s vice president of global product management said:
“We are bringing the Apple Music app to GM vehicles in a way that takes full advantage of our industry-leading audio capabilities. It’s the latest example of how we’re expanding entertainment choices built directly into our vehicles.”
As a natively integrated feature in GM, Apple Music will let users start streaming the moment they enter the vehicle, use their voice assistant for hands-free control, enjoy over 100 million songs, etc. and experience Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos in equipped Cadillac models.

Is GM Choosing Apple Over Google?
GM’s integration of Apple Music might come as a surprise to many because the company ended support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in newer models in October. The integration of Apple Music may be interpreted to mean that it is favoring Apple over Google.
Meanwhile, the company has been indicted for selling drivers’ geolocation data to consumer reporting agencies in connivance with its subsidiary OnStar without prior permission. This has raised questions about the use of technology in the company’s vehicles.
