British MPs caught using AI to write speeches raises concerns
Several British members of parliament have been found to rely on AI to write their speeches with recurring use of certain phrases and words.
A tweet highlighted the trend on 10 September with charts showing the phrases and words used in the AI-generated speeches and their frequencies.
An absurd place
The world now relies on AI so much that it has become a concern. Everywhere from school to work and now parliament, no one seems to use their brain anymore.
In the British parliament, the trend has been on the increase with more and more MPs relying on the technology to write speeches. How do we know? The uncanny similarities between speeches of different MPs.
Many of them start their speech with “I rise to speak” and regularly use other recurring words in the body of the speech, giving away the fact that they were written using AI.
One member of the parliament, Tom Tugenhat called out those MPs involved in the practice, saying the parliament has become an absurd place.
The MPs use ChatGPT primarily, which has also contributed to the monotony seen in the speeches over time.
AI is not all bad
Although the use of AI to write speeches is indeed unbecoming of members of parliament, it doesn’t mean that AI is all bad.
Of course like any other technology, it is bound to be abused, but it has also been very useful in several ways.
For example just recently, a woman was saved from exorbitant tenant charges for the repairs of her home when the issue was challenged using ChatGPT.
Several similar stories have been told of how ChatGPT saved users from one legal tussle or another, meaning it can also be a force for good and not just evil.
In the end, it is just a tool, and how it is used depends on the human with the device.
