BMW iX3
German automaker BMW has unveiled a new model, the iX3 with many advanced features including hands-free AI driving.
The vehicle produced under the NEUE KLASSE series is set to premiere at the upcoming IAA Mobility 2025, according to a press release on 5 September.
New height in automated driving
BMW introduced the hands-free driving feature known as Snapdragon Ride Pilot in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, a company mostly known for mobile phone chips.
An advanced automated driving system for the iX3 SUV, it features hands-free highway driving and AI enhancements.
Snapdragon Ride Pilot is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride system-on-chips with an automated driving software also built by the two companies.
The technology is built on a partnership between the two companies in 2021, and features enhanced hands-free driving like highway autopilot, automatic lane changes, and advanced parking assistance, placing the vehicle ahead of other autonomous vehicles.
Snapdragon Ride Pilot has already received validation in 60 nations, and the target is to reach over 100 by 2026. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two companies.
Other advanced features
The fully electric car also comes with a much bigger range of up to 805 kilometres (500 miles) and a peak charging rate of 400 kW enhanced by its excellent aerodynamics.
It also features sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology and Panoramic iDrive, which elevates intuitive operation and the driver focus for which the brand is well known.
Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG commenting said:
“Our goal with the NEUE KLASSE was to create the best overall system for our customers. That’s why the iX3 and the upcoming vehicles of the NEUE KLASSE integrate everything we’ve showcased in recent years.”
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive is powered by two electric motors that generate an output of 345 kW/469 hp and 645 Nm (475 lb-ft) of torque.
It is also capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).
