A photographer filming from the converted Porsche
Apprentices are hardly allowed to do anything noteworthy, but a group of them at Porsche have proven to be more than just trainees.
The company in an announcement on 29 October said nine of its apprentices have successfully converted a Porsche 718 Boxster S into a specialized camera car for filming track events.
After the conversion, the car has been used to shoot severally on the Leipzig track including shoots for Motor Presse Stuttgart.
From old car to modern machine
Porsche decided to convert the car after it could not keep up with the performance of its modern models.
To do this, the team assigned the task to nine apprentices under the supervision of the training supervisor.
The youngsters who were in their second year of training then came up with a concept that could meet the demands of daily use.
The design allows the photographer to sit in the hood and shoot while the car is in motion, sometimes at high speeds.
Modifications included removing the soft-top roof, the installation of a robust roll bar, and the finishing of the vehicle in matte black to minimize reflections during filming.

An easy question to ask is whether the photographer will be safe. To ensure that there is no risk to the photographer, the luggage compartments were padded and fitted with harness systems.
It also has an additional standing platform between the front seats and the rear trunk for further possible shooting configurations.
Initiated in 2017 and just recently completed, the vehicle also got technical upgrades such as internal wiring that allows direct connection between camera and laptop, as well as an inverter that supplies power to operate and recharge all technical equipment.
Pushing the bounds of innovation
For decades, Porsche has led in innovation when it comes to automotive design, and this transformation is a clear testament.
Just recently, the company also introduced a wireless charging technology for electric vehicles, starting with the Cayenne model series.
