- Apple has launched a web version of its app store to give users access across devices.
- Users can browse through different app categories and open installed apps from the web interface but cannot download directly.
- The new interface has been received with mixed feelings, some users praising it and others saying Android has done better.
The new web interface gives users full access to all of Apple’s apps for iPhones, Macbooks, and iPads, etc.
Any Apple user can use it to launch an already installed app on their devices directly, giving users a lot more flexibility.
Easier navigation on all platforms
Apps are separated into sections such as “Today” which highlights apps that are recommended for attention. Other sections include Games, Apps, Arcade, while categories include Photos and Videos, Health and Fitness, Productivity, Entertainment etc, depending on what types of apps the user is looking for.
On the top left, users can select their particular device and see the apps that are available for such a device. Supported devices include iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision, Watch, and TV.
While Apple already had a webpage for its apps, the new interface is more streamlined and makes it easier to navigate and find the apps users want.
Unfortunately, the web interface does not allow the direct download of applications to any device, it only allows the launching of already installed devices.
Users express mixed feelings
The news of Apple’s new web-based app interface was received with mixed feelings. While some users appreciate the development, some think it is either unnecessary or long overdue.
They compared Apple to Google, saying this feature has been available for Android for years, making Apple behind in the app store game.
The fact that the interface doesn’t allow direct download of apps is also one area that users are not happy with about the interface.
