Apple brings Tap to Pay on iPhone to more European countries
Apple has introduced Tap to Pay in more European countries, enabling millions of merchants to use iPhone to seamlessly accept in-person, contactless payments.
According to a press release on 19 March, the countries getting the service are Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Enabling seamless payments
Apple’s Tap to Pay is a contactless payment service the company offers in collaboration with payment platforms, app developers, and payment networks around the world.
With the service, businesses of all sizes can conveniently receive payments for their goods and services using just their iPhones and a partner-enabled iOS app.
Tap to Pay on iPhone works with contactless credit and debit cards from leading payment networks, including American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.
Merchants with iPhone X or later running the latest iOS version can access this service by simply prompting the customer to hold their contactless credit or debit card, iPhone or Apple Watch, or other digital wallets near the merchant’s iPhone at checkout.
The payment is securely completed using NFC technology where the customer is, with no need for additional hardware.
Available payment platforms by country
The different countries have different payment platforms available to them starting today. These include Adyen, myPOS, Revolut, and Viva, with SumUp coming soon in Bulgaria, Adyen, Mollie, Nets, Revolut, Stripe, SumUp and Viva, and Surfboard Payments coming soon in Finland.
In Hungary, there’s Adyen, Global Payments, myPOS, Revolut, SumUp, Viva, and Worldline, while only Ayden is available in Liechtenstein.
Poland has Adyen, eService with PKO Bank, Mollie, Stripe, SumUp, Viva, and Worldline, with Planet Pay, Revolut, and PeP (part of Nexi) coming soon, while Portugal has Adyen, Mollie, myPOS, Revolut, Stripe, SumUp, and Viva.
Similarly, Slovakia has Adyen, Global Payments Slovenská Sporitel’ňa, Revolut, and Worldline; SumUp coming soon, while Slovenia has Adyen, Revolut, and Worldline, with SumUp and hobex coming soon
Finally, Switzerland has Adyen, Mollie, myPOS, Nexi, Stripe, SumUp, and Worldline with hobex coming soon.
