Amazon Launches AI Tool for Translating Books into Other Languages
In Brief
- • Key Takeaways:
Amazon has rolled out an AI tool for translation books to other languages. Known as Kindle Translate, the tool is being released in beta and is available to selected Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) authors with few languages for now.
- Amazon has released an AI translation service for books known as Kindle Translate.
- The service allows select KDP authors to share their books with people in more languages than just English.
- This is one of Amazon’s most commendable applications of AI yet, and is set to revolutionize Kindle readers’ experience.
The AI tool makes it easier for KDP authors to share their eBooks with their audience around the world in multiple languages.
Amazon says the service is part of its commitment to giving more independent authors the power to reach wider audiences and increase their earning potentials.
A big Leap for KDP Authors
Before now, less than 5% of titles on Amazon were available in more than one language, mostly English. This greatly limited the reach of those authors as well as their earnings.
The new translation service supports translations between English and Spanish and from German to English, with more languages to be added.
Amazon provides a portal for the selected authors with details such as languages, list prices, and publishing, enabling them to publish accurate, fully formatted translations of their books.
within a few days.
All translated eBooks will be listed for sale and download on Amazon store, clearly labelled as such. Translated books are also eligible for enrollment in KDP Select and inclusion in Kindle Unlimited.
One of Amazon’s Best Use of AI Technology Yet
AI technology has found use in different companies and different scenarios, including Amazon. Kindle Translate is so far one of the best applications of the technology in the company yet.
Amazon Prime had earlier this year tested the use of AI for dubbing licensed movies and series, but automatic translation of books seems like a much more important use case.
With this in place, readers can look forward to many more books in their local languages especially as more languages get included.
