Samsung AI vacuum cleaner
A vacuum cleaner that climbs obstacles? Meet Samsung’s latest AI jet bot
Samsung has unveiled the latest of its AI vacuum cleaners, featuring the ability to climb obstacles and clean different surfaces.
A video released on 8 September shows Samsung demonstrating the AI vacuum’s abilities at IFA 2025, highlighting its ability to climb obstacles such as an elevated surface in its way.
A new breakthrough
Samsung has built several AI vacuum cleaners in the past, including one that avoids obstacles in its way. However, this is obviously not enough, hence the need to include the ability to climb surfaces and clean them.
The vacuum cleaner is said to have the ability to climb obstacles such as steps and thick rugs, allowing easy cleaning all round the house.
It can climb obstacles up to 4.5cm high, which is a major improvement from previous AI vacuum cleaners in Samsung’s lineup.
Before now, Samsung’s Bespoke Jet Bots have used IR, LiDAR sensors, and cameras to go around objects, but inability to climb obstacles was a major setback for the company’s robot vacuums.
The Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra revealed at the IFA 2025 uses specialized structures like wheels and rods underneath to climb over obstacles.
Details on how the robot makes decisions on which obstacle is too high or which ones to go around are not available, but Samsung is expected to reveal more details later.
Picking the challenge
While the AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra is Samsung’s latest model and the first AI vacuum cleaner to climb obstacles, it isn’t the first in the industry.
About a year ago, AI company Migo Robotics had released one vacuum cleaner that could climb staircases as shown in the video below.
The AI device has more elaborate features for climbing compared to Samsung’s AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra, and is more advanced in other ways, but Samsung seems to have picked the challenge and is trying to level up.
