Automaker Honda has announced the recall of roughly 800,000 vehicles due to an error that increases the risk of a fire.
According to reports, the recalls became necessary due to a fault in the design of high-pressure fuel pumps which may cause a leak that can trigger a fire. The recalls affect North American car owners only.
Affected models
Among vehicles affected by the recall are various Accord, CR-V Hybrid and Honda Civic vehicles from 2023 through 2025. Belonging to these categories are 720,000 vehicles in the United States and about 61,000 in Canada.
The company said that the defective pressure pumps can develop cracks that worsen during driving, leading to possible fuel leaks or fuel smell which owners can perceive while idling or driving.
Although Honda has had 145 warranty claims so far on the fault, there are no reports of injuries related to it, and the recall may be a precautionary move.
Owners of affected vehicles can go to authorized dealers who will inspect and if necessary replace the high-pressure fuel pump with an improved part, the company said.
To check if a vehicle is affected, vehicle owners can check on the Honda recall website here. All they have to do is enter their VIN and other required information and the system will show if their vehicle needs attention.
No need to panic
Realizing that your vehicle has a fault for which it is being recalled can be disturbing, but car recalls are actually quite common and they are necessary to protect users from harm.
Last week, American automaker Ford also recalled 40,000 of two of its vehicle models due to electric malfunction on the left windows.
