OpenAI has announced an upcoming hiring platform entirely powered by AI, leading to a fresh moral debate about the technology.

Announced in a tweet by the CEO of Applications at OpenAI on 4 September, the new platform idea had X users arguing that the platform will be just one of many that are replacing humans in the job market.

Opportunities or bad news?

The CEO of Applications at OpenAI, Fidji Simo in a press release said she believes AI will open doors to more opportunities than any technology ever did.

“I tell them I believe AI will unlock more opportunities for more people than any technology in history. It will help companies operate more efficiently, give anyone the power to turn their ideas into income, and create jobs that don’t even exist today.”

The new platform according to the company will match hiring companies with candidates with AI training and qualified for jobs.

However, she also admits that AI will disrupt jobs, changing the way people work and compelling them to adapt to new ways of working.

This is where many X users believe not just the platform but AI is a threat to humans. For many, they are taking over the jobs and livelihoods of humans.

One of the X users wrote:

“The main issue isn’t matching workers with AI gigs. It’s that AI is eliminating jobs way faster than people can adapt, and those displaced lack the skills and/or resources for the new tech roles being created.“

OpenAI is also rolling out an AI certification program that prepares trainees to work in the AI industry, which could be one way the company is creating jobs for humans.

Whatever is the case though, it still remains debatable if AI is for the good of humanity or not.
