Elon Musk teases wild new Tesla FSD model – launch window revealed
Amid numerous current and upcoming developments for Tesla, its CEO, Elon Musk, has just teased a wild new model of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite that could bring the feature to a whole new level from what we could experience in the current models.
Indeed, Musk has teased improvements to the current public version of the FSD suite, which has witnessed improvements in performance over the past several years, and now he stated that the new model, which is currently in training, has about ten times the parameters of the existing models.
Specifically, as he said in an X post on August 6, we can expect the new Tesla FSD model to launch by the end of next month, provided that the testing results allow for it:
As it happens, Musk hinted at this development during Tesla’s Q2 earnings call on July 23, when he said that:
“On the full self-driving front, we continue to make significant improvements just with the software. We are expecting to increase the parameter count to what we think can probably be tenfold the parameter count. This is a tricky thing to do because as you increase the parameter count, you get to choke on memory bandwidth. But we currently think we can tenfold the parameter count from what people are currently experiencing.”

Paving the road to full self-driving
More recently, the Tesla CEO revealed a potential timeline for an unprecedented self-driving feature that will probably become part of the upcoming FSD model – the ability for drivers to play video games while sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle in motion.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Robotaxi platform in Austin, which operates on an unreleased version of FSD, without requiring supervision from the driver, has outdone Waymo in a key performance metric – the size of its service area – early upon deployment, all the while making a joke about it.
Afterwards, Robotaxi continued to grow its service area and expanded the crude gesture on the map, and has upgraded its service to make it better and more convenient for customers – stopping in the exact location of the user’s phone instead of navigating strictly to the pickup point listed in the app.
