Tesla hints at new compact pickup truck in the works
As a Tesla executive finally confirmed the rumors that the Roadster project was well on its schedule, it seems that a new compact pickup truck is in the works as well, although it isn’t clear whether this would be a smaller version of the Cybertruck or an entirely new design.
Indeed, Tesla’s Vice President of Powertrain, Lars Moravy, discussed quite a few upcoming innovations, responding to a question of whether he saw “a need for a smaller, more globally scalable version to serve broader, more urban or international segments of the pickup market,” at the X Takeover on July 26.

According to him, it’s certainly a possibility:
“We always talked about making a smaller pickup. I think in the future, as more and more of the Robotaxi comes into the world, we look at those options and we think about, ‘Okay, that kind of service is useful not just for people, but also for goods.”
Moreover, Tesla has already been working on potential prototypes in its Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, and Moravy said that the team has “definitely been churning in the design studio about what we might do to serve that need, for sure.” However, he hasn’t mentioned Cybertruck in particular.
At the same time, Elon Musk has hinted at the possibility of a version of the Cybertruck for global roads, as he commented on the X post that argued “there appears to be large untapped demand for an international version of the Cybertruck,” to which the Tesla CEO said “Yeah”.
As a reminder, the Cybertruck is currently only available in North America and the United Arab Emirates, and hasn’t yet made its appearance much else, like in Europe or Asia, where Tesla does hold a significant part of the market. This is mainly due to the vehicle’s massive size, which isn’t great for tight streets and different traffic conditions, so it would make sense to make it smaller.
Meanwhile, Moravy has also confirmed the rumors about the Tesla Roadster, the long-awaited all-electric supercar with record-setting performance and efficiency, sparked by Musk’s cryptic update about the “most epic demo ever” to come out by the end of the year.
