I hate it: Users react to OpenAI’s new Advanced Voice upgrade
ChatGPT users have reacted to the recent upgrade OpenAI did on the Advanced Voice feature for paid customers.
The users aired their views on Reddit on 10 June, many of which said they prefer the old version of the feature.

OpenAI announced on 9 June that it had upgraded Advanced Voice, the feature that lets users have dialogues with ChatGPT out loud.
The company said the upgrade was to make conversations more natural and less formal than they used to be. It said ChatGPT now:
“Speaks even more naturally, with subtler intonation, realistic cadence (including pauses and emphases), and more on-point expressiveness for certain emotions including empathy, sarcasm, and more.”

While this all sounds really amazing, there seems to be many frustrations with the upgrade on the part of users. One wrote in response to the first writer:
“Agreed! I’m glad you said as much. I thought maybe I was just getting so thrown by the voice that value of what was being said was diminished but I think you’re right and it’s gotten much worse. I primarily use this to help me write work pitch decks so clean diction and clear ideas is imperative. This is a mess and it’s really not usable.”
Other users think it depends on what one uses ChatGPT for.
“Depends what you use it for. For quickly checking things, it’s great. Much more lively, truly awesome to use! For long-in depth conversations with detailed replies it’s worse – I personally prefer text for that, but I know people would like voice in that context. What would be great is having an option to switch between models optimized for 1 and 2.”
There seems to be no going back on the upgrade, but OpenAI in its release mentioned that there are issues such as “minor decreases in audio quality, including unexpected variations in tone and pitch” and intends to fix them.
