Attention to Cybex child chair owners: multiple models are being recalled
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the U.S. has announced the recall of some Cybex child seats.
The recall announced on 28 February affects seven models of the Cybex seats, including the Cybex Aton G, Cybex Aton G Only, Cybex Aton G SensorSafe, Cybex Aton G Swivel, Cybex Aton G Swivel SensorSafe, Eos and Aton G Travel System, and Eos and Aton G Travel System.
What happened
The recall became necessary because of faults in the affected seats that can constitute a major risk to the users.
Specifically, the harness in the anchorage retention hooks may bend, causing the anchor pin to loosen and the harness strap to detach.
This can increase the risk of injury, as a detached harness cannot properly restrain a child.
Columbus Trading-Partners (CTP), the child safety organization behind the recall, will mail the owners a remedy kit and installation instructions free of charge.
Owners’ notification letters are expected to be sent on 4 April 2025. They can also call CTP customer care line for more information on the recalls.
Why recalls
Recalls are a way through which vehicles that left the production line with faults can be corrected by informing buyers who have acquired such vehicles.
This also applies to car parts such as the child car seats in the current case. Such recalls demand that the vehicle owners return the products to certain service stations and get them fixed at no extra cost to them.
The NHTSA has announced several recalls both last year and this year due to several different reasons. One of the most prominent was the recall of the Lamborghini Revuelto due to an oil leak concern.
Another was the recall of 800,000 of Honda’s latest models due to potential fuel leaks under high pressure that could increase the risk of a fire.
