iOS users celebrate as Gemini is removed from Google app
Following the decision to remove Gemini from Google app for iOS, some users of Apple devices have expressed relief.
In a Reddit post on 19 February, the users expressed their joy concerning the news, and are looking forward to what is new ahead.
Something is wrong
Gemini is Google’s largest and most capable AI model so far, and it has been incorporated into almost every Google service.
However, there have been several complaints, particularly on the AI model incorporated into Google app for iOS devices.
The users have long complained about how ChatGPT is better than Gemini on their devices for different tasks. One of them commented three months ago saying:
“I’ve had much better experiences and results from GPT than Gemini. I remember using Gemini for conversions and maybe by the 5th or 6th conversion, it started giving me totally incorrect answers lol.”
Google recently announced that it will be making some changes to improve Gemini for iOS users, including removing the AI model from Google app.
Henceforth, iOS devices will have their own standalone Gemini app which comes with a number of upgrades, including upgrades like Imagen 3 support and expanded extensions.
Hopefully, the new app will perform better than the Gemini in the Google app, something users will have to judge after using the app for a while.
Gemini criticisms
Gemini has been criticized severally because of sub par performance. Unfortunately, Google has integrated it with most of its services, resulting in widespread criticism.
For example, AI overview which is powered by Gemini has been known for giving inaccurate information as a summary to users.
This has gone on for so long that users had to find a way to turn it off completely in their searches, but hopefully things will get better.
