Stephen Curry trains with AI robots in NBA’s latest innovation

As AI and robotics leave the realm of science fiction and become part of our everyday lives, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has released a video featuring its latest AI robot technology supporting Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry as he trains.

Specifically, the video was part of the presentation at the 2025 NBA All-Star Technology Summit, and the NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the tech was an example of Golden State Warriors “using physical AI to support their players,” according to a thread on social media platform X on February 14.

Curry himself commented on how accustomed he became to these AI robots, stating:

“At first it was definitely weird, having all these robots moving around and doing stuff, but they just became part of the day-to-day. (…) They don’t take breaks, they don’t need water, it makes you want to go harder, it definitely pushes our practices to another level.”

Head Coach Steve Kerr joked they were much like any other player and he was basically treating them as such – yelling at them and ordering them around, adding that “It kinda feels natural at this point.”

NBA’s team of AI robots

As it happens, there are several AI robots assisting the team, including A.B.E. (Automated Basketball Engine) that rebounds and passes to players during shooting sessions; K.I.T. (Kinematic Interface Tool), which provides companionship to players and staff; M.I.M.I.C. (Motion & Intercept Modular-Interface Coordination), assisting coaches in designing and teaching plays; and B.E.B.E. (Bot-Enhanced Basics & Equipment) that helps players with preparation and recovery.

That said, A.B.E. is certainly the star among players, featured in the video as it’s helping Curry maximize his shooting practice with countless repetitions. According to the NBA developers:

“What we’re building is more than just technology, it’s a tool that bridges engineering and human performance in a way that’s never been done before. (…) These robots can track micromovements, simulate game-like pressure, and provide real-time feedback faster than any coach or trainer could.”

Another video shows Curry’s teammate Draymond Green talking to K.I.T., which encourages and entertains him as he exercises and walks to and from the practice.

Upon Silver’s presentation, these AI robots joined him on stage, together with Boston Dynamics’ Spot robot dogs, which launched T-shirts and entertained the crowd, providing a glimpse into the potential applications of robotics in sports, per NBA news service.

Meanwhile, they are far from being the first or only AI robots involved in sports. Earlier this month, football-playing robots and robodogs took over the AI-themed Beijing’s Lunar New Year event, appearing among multiple cutting-edge innovations that added an exciting experience for visitors.
